As PewDiePie has taken the lead in his battle with T-Series over who has the most YouTube subscribers, it seems some people (thousands, in fact) don’t want a PewDiePie YouTube channel to exist at all. A new petition was created to remove the PewDiePie YouTube channel and its support keeps growing with more people adding their signatures.

PewDiePie has released a video with a response on the whole situation: Check it out below.

With well over 90 million subscribers, the PewDiePie YouTube channel is the largest in the world, with T-series having a few thousand subscribers less, at the time of writing this.

The petition, which is entitled “Remove White Supremacist Content From YouTube”, calls for a removal of the PewDiePie channel referencing a slew of incidents that don’t look so great for the popular YouTube content creator. The petition mentions the worst of the worst incidents, like the recent tragic mass shootings in New Zealand where the attacker referenced the PewDiePie v T-Series YouTube battle by asking people to subscribe to the PewDiePie YouTube channel.

Other incidents have also come up, where it appears PewDiePie gets support from people with bad morals, like when a fan branded a World War II memorial in New York with “sub to PewDiePie”. Although the YouTube star tries to distance himself from such behaviour and comments, he is no stranger to creating controversy with some of the racial slurs (amongst other things) that he throws out on his YouTube videos himself. As recently as 2017 he used the N racial slur word in a live-stream.

The petition has a laundry list of past apparent transgressions by PewDiePie like:

  • used the N slur twice in two separate videos and has hired people to say the N slur
  • he has promoted videos that contain Adolf Hitler speeches and anti-Semitic cartoons
  • he paid Indian men on website Fiverr to hold up signs that say death to all jews
  • he performed the Nazi heil in one of his videos
  • he used images of famous African-Americans (Neil deGrasse Tyson, Barack Obama) captioned with the wrong names
  • he made a clip of a man dressed as Jesus holding a sign stating “hitler did absolutely nothing wrong”
  • he makes rape jokes
  • in his face-swapping video he repeatedly uses an image of actress Leslie Jones to represent Harambe, the gorilla killed in the Cincinnati zoo last year.

At the time of writing this, the petition has garnered just over 76 000 signatures, with the goal being to get to 150 000. But whether that would be enough to force or convince YouTube to ban arguably the biggest channel on its platform, is doubtful. Let’s be honest here, has very little impact on the world other than causing even more drama surrounding the issue.
