Platinum Games Has No Plans to Scale Back Development on Babylon’s Fall Following Failed Launch

Square Enix and Platinum Games have confirmed that the company has no plans to scale back the development on Babylon’s Fall despite the game’s horrendous launch. If you missed it, Babylon’s Fall launched earlier this month to some abysmally reviews. The player count is basically non-existent at the moment with fewer than 30 players currently in-game.

At its peak, Babylon’s Fall usually sits with around 200 players in the game which is incredibly sad for a live service game. Unfortunately, this is all self-inflicted. Babylon’s Fall launched at a premium price tag of over R1200 and also packs a premium battle pass system and heavy in-game purchases. Not to mention the gameplay is rather lacklustre and visually, the game is less than attractive.

Regardless of its issues and Metacritic rating of 42, developer Platinum Games says it is doubling down on development for the game. Last week, Publisher Square Enix released a player survey that asked players for input on how they can improve the experience. Platinum Games aims to use this feedback as a stepping stone towards its development roadmap.

In a tweet, the developer says they have no plans to reduce the scale of development on the game. In fact, the studio has already completed work on Season 2 and started working on Season 3 and beyond. Keep in mind that content in these seasons is locked behind in-game purchases. Both seasonal drops will require gamers to purchase a battle pass in order to fully benefit from the content.

“No, there are no plans to reduce the scale of development on Babylon’s Fall. Content up to the end of Season 2 is now practically complete and we have started to work on Season 3 and beyond.

We will continue to provide new content for the game and make improvements based on player feedback, striving to keep existing players playing and to attract newcomers. We would like to thank all Sentinals already enjoying the world of Babylon’s Fall, as we look forward to welcoming more of you in the future!”

If you are part of the few playing the game, you can look forward to Babylon’s Fall update 1.10 coming in the next few weeks. This update will increase the level cap for the game while also adding a new chapter called Resurgence, a new map in the Tower of Babylon called Blockade Zone, a new faction and weapon type.
