If you are on the fence about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and want to get your hands on the game first before you throw your wallet at Infinity Ward and Activision, then you are in for a treat this weekend. That’s if you own a PS4 that is, because the Modern Warfare Multiplayer Alpha will be free on PS4 this coming weekend, starting on 23 August 2019.
Developer Infinity Ward seems to be doing a lot right when it comes to the Modern Warfare multiplayer and everything we’ve seen so far about the game, it sounds fantastic and the full game will even have dedicated servers, cross-play and much more. But really, the best thing a developer can do is let the general gaming populace take their title for a test drive and that is exactly what this Modern Warfare multiplayer alpha which you can play for free on PS4 this weekend is all about.
You don’t even need PS+ or a pre-order to participate, you just need a PS4 and you will be good to go. Preloading will start “hours prior to the official launch” of the Modern Warfare Multiplayer Alpha which takes place on 23 August at 19:00 SA time.
You will be able to play the 2vs2 multiplayer mode Gunfight for free on the PS4. You will play five different maps, including King, Pine, Stack and two maps that no one has seen before, Speedball and Docks. Further, multiple Operators will be available to test out in the Modern Warfare Multiplayer Alpha, and the developer notes that there are multiple surprises planned throughout the weekend as content will be added.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases on 25 October 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Before the release, you can try the game’s multiplayer Alpha, called Gunfight, for free, with a beta coming on 12 September 2019.
