In celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, Sony has announced a new PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection of consoles and accessories, including a grey digital PS5 and a very limited edition PS5 Pro. Pre-orders for the collection (all products sold separately) will open up on 26 September ahead of its launch on 21 November.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will include a PS5 Digital Edition with colours themed around the original PlayStation (or PS1) along with a matching themed DualSense controller, a console cover for the disc drive (which is sold separately), a vertical stand, a poster (from 1 of 30 possible designers), four PlayStation Shapes cable ties, a sticker, a paperclip and an “original PlayStation-style cable connector housing.”
The 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro will contain all the same accessories along with a themed DualSense Edge controller and DualSense Charging Station. Sony says only 12,300 of these PS5 Pro consoles will be made globally, each containing a number, so they will be very limited (and possibly come with a very high price tag).
The 30th Anniversary DualSense controller and DualSense Edge controller will also be sold separately along with a themed limited edition PlayStation Portable with PS1-style controller handles.
SIE Platform Business Group CEO Hideaki Nishino wrote on the PlayStation Blog:
“We believe the beginning of our journey is an important part of our history at Sony Interactive Entertainment, which is why we are honouring this moment by bringing the original PlayStation design theme into the latest products for PS5 to commemorate the last 30 years. As we look ahead to the future, we will continue to innovate as technology evolves, so you can enjoy each memorable moment in your continued journey with PlayStation.”
As for local listings, we have yet to receive any information on the collection’s availablity in South Africa at the moment. However, it’s worth noting that the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition, the centrepiece of the collection, will be in extremely high demand so it will unfortunately be very limited. We’ll update you once more information becomes known to us regarding pricing and availability.
