Sony has announced that it’s removing the PlayStation 30th anniversary themes from PS5 consoles today. The themes were designed after the layouts for the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4, giving your home screen a touch of personality. Unfortunately the themes won’t be available any longer from today, though Sony has promised that it will return at some point.
Thanks to the 30th anniversary themes which were added to PS5 last month, players were able to change certain aspects of their PS5’s operating system, emulating the look and feel of PlayStation’s previous generations of consoles. It was a blast of nostalgia for many players as it even changed the boot-up screen and audio to reflect the previous generations’ own boot-ups. Sony told players at the time that the themes would only be temporary.
It looks like they’re finally leaving today, though Sony says they plan on bringing them back in the future thanks to positive feedback from the community.
Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow.

One of the biggest criticisms of the PS5 is its lack of custom themes. The PS4 generation featured fully customisable themes from a variety of designs and franchises for players to truly make their console feel like their own. However, the PS5 generation removed this feature, limiting “themes” to splash screens of the games on your home page.
Sadly, PlayStation made it clear that it had no plans to bring more themes to PS5, at least anytime soon. “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we’re excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all,” said PlayStation on X.
