PlayStation Network Suffers From Worldwide Outage

The PlayStation Network is currently down. It has been down since 03:00 CAT this morning when users reported being kicked offline and unable to access online services. According to the official PSN Service Status page, all services across the PSN are currently experiencing issues.

Services affected by the ongoing outage include PSN account management, gaming and social features and the PlayStation Store. So basically, if it is PlayStation-related, it is currently down.

At the moment it isn’t clear when the issue will be fixed. Usually, these outages last an hour or so. However, five hours later it still hasn’t been resolved. This outage seems a bit bigger than expected.

The PlayStation help account on social media says “You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.” If you try to access any of these features, you might get the PS5 error Code WS-116522-7. According to the error page, this update means a system software update has failed.

Users suggest that the outage is related to the current so-called “bug” on the PS5 that is showing ads behind each game icon instead of the usual artwork. Sony claimed it was fixing the bug to return the PS5 home screen back to normal. Soon after this fix was announced, the PSN went offline. We don’t know if this is linked to the outage but the timing is perfect.
