Despite being seen as a “waste of a game” added to PlayStation Plus right after Sony increased the price of the service, PlayStation owners seem to be enjoying the addition of Saints Row on the platform.
The game was added to the PlayStation Plus Essentials lineup last week and has been played by a large number of subscribers. According to TrueTrophies who have access to 3.2 million PlayStation account data through GameInsights, Saints Row is now the second most popular PlayStation Plus game on the service this year.

The report reads that Saints Row sits just 23% shy of Battlefield 2042’s player data when the game was added to the service back in March 2023. It also overtook Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War by 2%. Of course, this number can be attributed to Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War game sales being much higher than Saints Row. The majority of PlayStation Plus subscribers already owned the game.
Still, the fact that Saints Row is being played by so many players is a great sign for the game. While it won’t do much now considering Volition is being shut down, perhaps the player base growth will give the devs some hope that they didn’t create a bad game after all.
The player count also reveals just how important these sorts of games are for subscription services. Many players will hang on spending R1000 on a game before trying it in another way. I am sure thousands could not wait to see what the fuss was about when Saints Row was added. Be this good or bad.
