PlayStation Rolls Out Additional Five Days of PS Plus After PSN Outage

In early February, the PlayStation Network suffered a strange 24-hour outage, preventing players from taking part in gaming events that weekend including the second open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds and Double XP weekend in Call of Duty, among other titles. Since the PSN was restored, PlayStation compensated players by offering an additional five days to their active PS Plus subscriptions, which seems to be rolling out now.

According Push Square, the five day extensions for PS Plus are rolling out now as the site noticed that an additional five days had recently been added to the expiry date of its last Premium payment. Some subscribers have reported not receiving the extension yet but it seems to be slowly being extended per region, so keep an eye out to check if your PS Plus subscription suddenly got an additional few days added to it.

Capcom also did its best to accommodate players affected by the PlayStation Network outage, extending the second open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds by one day. This wasn’t just exclusive to PS5 though, as players on Xbox Series X/S and PC also got to enjoy an extra day of the beta.

The 24-hour PSN outage was the worst Sony had faced since the infamous 2011 outage which occurred due to a network intrusion and attack. The outage back then lasted much longer, blocking off players from accessing any online features for a staggering 23 days. PlayStation compensated players by allowing them to choose one of several PS3 games at the time for free.

PlayStation has yet to offer an official explanation for the 24-hour outage, though some coincidences – like the fact that several spam games quietly got delisted from the digital store shortly afterwards – are mysterious indeed. Hopefully something like this is resolved much quicker in the future, though the fact that there are outages that collapse the entire network is already scary enough.
