PlayStation State of Play Showcase Announced for June 2

PlayStation has officially announced another State of Play showcase for 2 June 2022. The show will run for 30 minutes and feature announcements and updates, with some “exciting” third-party reveals and a first look at upcoming PS VR2 games.

Sony confirmed a new PlayStation State of Play show for next week, bringing with it half an hour of reveals and announcements. However, there will be at least some time given to PS VR2, particularly a few games coming to the new virtual reality headset in the future. This also comes in light of previous reports that suggested a smaller PlayStation showcase might happen in June, followed by a bigger event in September.

If the reports are correct, then this next State of Play won’t be as large as we think. Given the track record of Sony’s previous State of Play shows, it’s unlikely that this one will have many major reveals or exclusive deep dives.

That’s not to say that we can’t expect some great things from the upcoming show. Sony has yet to reveal release dates for God of War Ragnarok or Hogwarts Legacy, though the latter might’ve accidentally been leaked by merchandise already. It’s possible that we’ll see these games at the State of Play in some capacity and hopefully with official release dates attached to them.

For the most part, we can also expect some third-party reveals, though we’re not sure which developers and publishers might show up. We have yet to hear about Capcom’s plans for Resident Evil Village DLC nor any of its upcoming projects beyond Street Fighter 6 and the dinosaur action game, Exoprimal.

It’s possible that we’ll see Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series show up at the upcoming show, which may include Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2. However, this appears to be a much smaller scaled show, so it’s best to temper your expectations on those titles showing up.

The next PlayStation State of Play show will air on 2 June 2022 at 8PM PT or 12AM (midnight) SAST.
