PlayStation president Jim Ryan has confirmed that the company expects to have half of its release titles to be on PC and mobile by 2025. Ryan made the announcement during a business briefing, citing that the expansion into other platforms, as well as live service gaming, will be “transformational to our business”.
Ryan continued to say: “PlayStation Studios historically has executed wonderfully in the delivery of a strong portfolio of narrative rich, graphically beautiful single-player games, but it’s certainly the case that we have restricted ourselves to a rather narrow portion of the gaming market”.

We have seen PlayStation expand into the PC market with titles such as God of War (2018), Horizon Zero Dawn, and Days Gone, to which PlayStation will continue to add to that library. PlayStation also aims to expand more into the mobile market. In the presentation, Ryan also confirmed that the console giant aims to phase out PS4 releases by 2025 as well.
“By expanding to PC and mobile, and it must be said… also to live services, we have the opportunity to move from a situation of being present in a very narrow segment of the overall gaming software market, to being present pretty much everywhere.
I think if we do this right, if we execute with intelligence and we execute with excellence, the opportunities for significant growth in the number of people who play our games, the number of people who enjoy our games, and the number of people who spend money on our games, is exponentially a large one.
I would say for example, if we are successful in making a portion of the 12 live service games that we have in development in PlayStation Studios… if only a portion of those enjoy critical and commercial success, then the impact of that over time will be completely transformational to our business structure.”
PlayStation recently posted a job listing looking for a senior director to lead its PC expansion strategy, where the applicant will be responsible for “the strategy and commercial activity within Global Channel sales and will deliver a single, optimized PC Sales growth and commercial plan”. The next PC release for PlayStation is Uncharted 4: Legacy of Thieves which will launch on the 20th of June 2022, and there are multiple other titles in the pipeline to be sent to PC.
