PlayStation’s Best Person, Shuhei Yoshida is Leaving in January

Shuhei Yoshida is leaving PlayStation in January 2025 after a 31-year career at the gaming brand. Yoshida says that this is not a retirement announcement. He is still determined to work in video games but is leaving PlayStation to do so.

If you don’t know, Shuhei Yoshida is sort of like a mascot for PlayStation. The man was part of various launches and milestones at PlayStation. He is best known for his role as the president of Worldwide Studios which he led between 2008 and 2019. Yoshida then stepped down in 2019 and went on to the role of head of PlayStation Indies.

If there is a special moment in PlayStation history that you remember, Yoshida was there. He was part of the launch team that brought PlayStation to the market in 1994 and was part of the group that helped develop the PSP. He was a crucial mind behind the PlayStation rebrand during the PS3 era too.

In a blog post, Yoshida says working with the Indies has been his “dream job” despite being involved in countless PlayStation milestones. He says one of his fondest memories is when Journey won Game of the Year at the DICE summit in 2013.

But Yoshida isn’t done yet. In his announcement post, he has all the intention to stick around a while longer in the industry. He hasn’t revealed where he wants to go yet but I am sure some announcement will come very soon.

In the meantime, I will leave you with Shuhei Yoshida’s most memorable video – when he starred in the “how to share your PS4 games” video. The video was a parody released soon after the Xbox One fiasco of always-on gaming.
