During the Pokémon Presents, The Pokémon Company showcased a number of updates to existing games as well as a rather substantial showcase for the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
In the trailer, we get to see some new gameplay with the confirmation that Mega Evolutions are returning to the series. The trailer details how players will go about their day in Lumiose City. While Scarlet and Violet feature vast open areas to explore, the city is instead smaller and more focused.
There are Wild Areas which are similar to the locations we saw in Sword and Shield. Here, Pokémon roam free and players can encounter battles and catch wild ones.
According to The Pokémon Company, Lumiose City is also undergoing a dramatic transformation. The city is seemingly being turned into a futuristic vista with tech devices like teleporters scattered around buildings.
Battles have also changed in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The trailer explains how Pokémon moves now have a specific range and effect. So you will have to choose up-close attacks for certain battles and worry about your timing and positioning to win matches.
Mega Evolutions also unlock special moves for certain Pokémon that unlock moves with a larger attack radius and greater effects.
Sadly, The Pokémon Company did not announce a release date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The studio confirmed that it will launch in late 2025. Watch the trailer below.
