Pokemon Legends Z-A will officially launch sometime in late 2025, Nintendo and developer Game Freak recently confirmed at a recent Direct event. The companies also showcased some brand new gameplay, mostly putting the spotlight on some of its more relaxing features like being able to sit at a table and have lunch with your Pokemon, among other things.
The gameplay for Pokemon Legends Z-A mostly goes over everything we already know about the upcoming game. Set entirely in Lumiose City from the Kalos region (only expanded), players will be able to freely explore the city while entering closed off sections called Wild Zones for trainers to capture and train their Pokemon. Without a world to explore outside the borders of Lumiose City, these Wild Zones act as a way for players to level up and gain experience for their Pokemon.
A first for the series allows your trainer to engage battles on a more personal level by moving around, similar to certain encounters somewhat experimented with in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
The full description for Pokemon Legends Z-A reads:
“The story is set in Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon. Compared to Lumiose City as it appeared in the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games, released in 2013, more greenery now adorns the city, alongside facilities with a cutting-edge feel. In Lumiose City, spaces frequented by people—such as shopping arcades, cafés, and restaurants—coexist with more natural areas, such as waterfronts and verdant parks. At the center of Lumiose stands Prism Tower, the very symbol of the city.”
