All Main Pokemon Games Ranked Worst to Best

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Seems to Run Much Smoother on Switch 2

Nintendo has released a video showing 2022’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which was originally released for the Nintendo Switch, running on the Switch 2. The game was applauded for its ambition in being the first true open-world Pokemon game, though it also received plenty of criticism for its technical issues and undercooked visuals. A free upgrade to Switch 2 now awaits players who own the game and judging by the new footage, it does seem to run much smoother on the new hardware.

The Nintendo Today app recently uploaded new footage of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet running on the Nintendo Switch 2, showing the game running at a higher framerate with improved, sharper colours and textures. Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed the game’s framerate on Switch 2 but the company did reveal that the visuals had been optimised for the next-gen console. Best of all, players won’t have to pay any additional fee to enjoy the upgrade if they already own the game.

The footage clips together various sections of the game including exploration and transformations, though it remains to be seen how well it will run during its more action-heavy moments and battles. It’s looking mostly positive for players who have asked for an improved Pokemon Scarlet and Violet experience since the game, to this day, still contains some bugs and glitches that haven’t been completely patched out yet.

In related news, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company are set to release Pokemon Legends Z-A this year, a spin-off of the mainline series that takes players to an expanded Lumiose City from the Kalos region (originally seen in Pokemon X and Y). Pokemon Legends Z-A will launch on 16 October for both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. Players will also be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition of the game via an upgrade pack.
