Pokemon Sleep has started rolling out around the world. Select regions can now download the app for both iOS and Android. I checked this morning and can confirm that Pokemon Sleep is available in South Africa on both platforms.
For those who don’t know, Pokemon Sleep is a mobile app/game that promotes healthy sleeping with the help of friendly Pokemon. Users download the app and essentially, it acts as a sleep tracker.

Each night, when you go to bed, the app will track your sleeping and in the morning you might wake up to new Pokemon waiting to add to your collection.
While Pokemon Sleep works with just your phone, The Pokemon Company has also launched an accessory for the app called the Pokemon Go Plus +. The device makes it possible to track your sleep without a smartphone around.
The Pokemon Go Plus + also works similarly to the previous Pokemon Go tech and links to the AR game. You can catch Pokemon and spin Poke Stops with a press of a button. So think of this device as a two-in-one accessory now which links to both Pokemon Go and Pokemon Sleep.
If you do end up grabbing a Pokemon Go Plus + unit, you’ll also get a special Pikachu wearing a nightcap in Pokemon Sleep and Snorlax wearing a nightcap in Pokemon Go. You can purchase the Pokemon Go Plus + device in South Africa for R1499 here. It is launching on 21 July.
It is a bit too early to tell how well Pokemon Sleep is going to do. The game relies on sleeping which means you can only progress it while in bed and asleep. The longer you sleep, the more Pokemon you’ll be able to gather. The game will also provide useful information on your sleeping patterns and rate your sleep the night before.
You can download Pokemon Sleep for Android here and iOS here.
