Potential New DOOM Trademark Filed Ahead of Xbox Showcase

A new trademark has been filed for a potential new DOOM game ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase in June. This follows a previous tease from The Verge journalist Tom Warren, who implied this much in a recent article.

As reported by Clawsome Gamer, a new trademark was filed by ZeniMax Media in the United States that’s possibly linked to a new DOOM game. The trademark in question is listed as “IDKFA” which references a cheat code used the classic DOOM games. It seems likely that this new title from developer id Software will officially be revealed at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase taking place on 9 June.

Interestingly, the existence of a new DOOM game was already leaked last year as part of an FTC documents leak during Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard acquisition court case. The title mentioned in the leak specifically refers to the new title as “DOOM Year Zero“, though it’s unknown if this is simply a working title or the official title. There’s a good chance we’ll get confirmation at the upcoming showcase, which is less than a month away.

Since DOOM Eternal launched in 2020, id Software have been relatively quiet (apart from developing two expansions for the game). It’s believed that the studio was secretly working on the next entry in its rebooted DOOM series. Job listings from id Software back in 2022 might’ve also been a big clue as to the developer’s next project, which was speculated to either be a new DOOM game or the next Quake.

The official description for DOOM Eternal reads:

“Hell’s armies have invaded Earth. Become the Slayer in an epic single-player campaign to conquer demons across dimensions and stop the final destruction of humanity. Experience the ultimate combination of speed and power in DOOM Eternal – the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat. Armed with a shoulder-mounted flamethrower, retractable wrist-mounted blade, upgraded guns and mods, and abilities, you’re faster, stronger, and more versatile than ever.”
