Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Delayed to 2022 – Won’t Be at E3 2021

Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been pushed into 2022 and won’t be showcased at the company’s E3 2021 Forward event this weekend. Originally, the Sands of Time Remake was meant to release in January this year but Ubisoft delayed the game after fans criticised the game’s lacklustre visuals and facial animations.

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Prune and Mumbai and marks the studio’s first standalone video game release to date. It was a big undertaking of which did not go as they originally planned.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake was delayed the first time back in January just two weeks before the game was meant to release. Ubisoft pushed its release to March 2021. However, the development cycle needed more time so Ubisoft delayed it indefinitely. While we don’t have a release date yet for the game, the developers say it is on track for a 2022 release schedule now.

In a statement, Ubisoft Mumbai says that the delay will allow the studio to put the extra time into the game to develop something the fans deserve. They also claim that the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event that kicks off this Saturday won’t include the game during the show whatsoever.

“Ubisoft Forward is around the corner and we wanted to use this time to thank you for the amount of support you have show us in the past year,” the publisher wrote. “As you might have already read, Price of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will not be in Ubisoft Forward. We are making great progress for our game to release next year, but we are not ready to share any additional information just yet”.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake features a built-from-the-ground-up makeover of the original 2003 release. The game will include visual enhancements alongside new models, textures, lighting pipelines and even completely recaptured animations through motion capture. The original actors from the first game will reprise their role in the remake including Prince actor Yuri Lowenthal back in the role and Guidestones actress Supinder Wraich cast as Farah.
