Prodeus, the Doom-inspired retro shooter from developer Bounding Box Software and publisher Humble Games, has an official release date of 23 September 2022 for consoles and PC. The game was announced a couple of years ago before entering an early access period. The final build, titled Prodeus 1.0, will finally be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC later this week.
The retro shooter Prodeus absolutely wears its inspiration on its sleeve, delivering fast-paced and bloody action reminiscent of 90s shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein and Quake. It uses a pixelated art style mixed with 3D geometry, giving the game its unique look and style. In addition to a campaign, players will get to experience multiplayer and custom maps and levels created by the community, giving it a bit of longevity.
Prodeus‘ official description provided on the game’s Steam page reads:
“Prodeus is a first-person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques and technology. Experience the quality you’d expect from a modern AAA game, designed with retro aesthetics and gameplay that invoke the tech-imposed limits of older hardware. The game features a hand-crafted campaign from industry FPS veterans, co-op and competitive multiplayer play drawing on classic modes, a fully integrated level editor, and a built-in community map browser for instantaneous action with nearly limitless levels to play. Get ready to paint the walls red. This is the Boomer Shooter you’ve been waiting for.”
Prodeus will leave early access and be available to download on all major consoles and PC. Additionally, it will also launch on Xbox Game Pass to all members who currently have an active subscription. A game preview is still currently available to download on Game Pass too, though it won’t be long before players get the full version.
