Marvel PS5 Multiplayer Insomniac

PS5 Exclusive Marvel Multiplayer Game in Development – Report

PlayStation is currently on a roll with Marvel properties, scoring winning streaks with their Spider-Man franchises and soon, a new Wolverine game from Insomniac Games. However, the PS5 may have a few big single-player Marvel games in the works, but a new report suggests that Sony could also be developing a multiplayer project as well with the Marvel IP.

Speaking on a recent XboxEra podcast, co-host Nick Baker, who has been known to have accurate insider information in the past, said that “Sony’s clearly all-in on Marvel and Disney are clearly all-in on Sony.” Baker went on to state that it’s bad news for Xbox fans as Sony and Marvel’s relationship continues to build. However, the co-host stated that Sony is also working on a Marvel multiplayer project, saying:

“I have been told there is a […] multiplayer Marvel game allegedly in the works, that will probably be a PS5 exclusive.”

Baker didn’t offer any further information about this alleged Marvel multiplayer project, though it seems likely to be developed by one of PlayStation’s first-party studios if it’s meant to be a PS5 exclusive. Baker added that he and his source have since speculated that it could be Insomniac behind this multiplayer outing. At the moment, Insomniac Games is hard at work on both Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine, though it’s possible that they may be shifting around resources to accommodate the development of another project. If Insomniac isn’t attached, then it could be any number of studios from Sucker Punch to Naughty Dog, though we recommend taking this with a grain of salt for now.

It’s clear that Insomniac is PlayStation’s key studio in producing Marvel video game projects for the foreseeable future, though it’s possible that they could also bring aboard any one of their numerous acquired studios to handle development on it. Insomniac may already have their hands full, with a possible sequel to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart also in the works, so another multiplayer project might be too ambitious.
