Late last week during The Game Awards 2019, Godfall was revealed as the “first official PS5 trailer”. This “looter-slasher” is said to be similar to Destiny but with swords and magic rather than guns and weapons. The reveal trailer was quite fancy but our first small glimpse at the gameplay is making us even more excited for the next-gen of gaming. While Godfall on PS5 won’t be seen until next year, a gif was spotted showing off a few seconds of gameplay and from what we gather, this upcoming title has a lot of “Souls” inspiration.

The gif, which you can see below is the only gameplay we have seen to date of this upcoming looter RPG and while it may be only a gif, it looks pretty awesome. You can see the power of next-gen running the game including RTX features such as reflections on the tiles, advanced particle effects and much more.
During an interview with PlayStation Lifestyle, Kieth Lee, Creative Director on Godfall from Counterplay Games explained what the game was all about. Kieth revealed that the game has been built with inspiration from various games such as Destiny, Darksiders, and even Monster Hunter. Kieth revealed that at the beginning of the game, you will be able to select your playable character who is a remnant of an exalted Knight’s Order intent on stopping the apocalypse and preserving the last vestiges of their world.

Besides these three, you will uncover and equip additional ancient Valorplates lost in time in your journey, each with their own characteristics and historical lineage. [/perfectpullquote]
Kieth explained that Godfall is a new IP set in a bright and high fantasy universe. The world is split up into the realms of Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Spirit. The trailer which you can catch up down below showed off the Water realm indicated by a swirling maelstrom in the sky above the characters. This giant structure is known as the Skybreaker Monolith.
Gameplay details were also revealed about Godfall. All players will have ranged attacks but with limited cooldowns and charges. The combat focus, however, is about tightening up the combat circle for melee combat. Players will always have two primary melee weapons to switch to at any time during a mission.

We have a wide spectrum of weapon classes ranging from small and nimble to heavy and powerful. Players collect powerful ancient armor sets called Valorplates, which contain myriad slots for players to insert powerful Augments that influence your playstyle. For example, you might add an Augment into your Valorplate that heals you and your allies whenever you hit an enemy’s weak point for survivability, or you might insert a different Augment that summons deadly magical missiles that targets nearby enemies for soft AoE damage whenever you hit a weak point [/perfectpullquote]
When speaking about the online co-op mode, Kieth revealed that Godfall has been designed from the ground up for co-op. You can join players with friends at mixed levels and even through a “hot-join” feature. All content will be accessible to all players in solo or co-op and the fun comes from taking a different approach with friends and playing solo.
Kieth also revealed that the game will make full use of the PS5 and its new features including the SSD which will allow them to deliver a new level of detail for each individual object as well as a seamless loading experience. The “adaptive” triggers on the DualShock 5 will also allow for haptic feedback and make moment-to-moment combat feel exhilarating.
