PS5 Marvel’s Spider-Man Has a New Peter Parker and People Are Not Happy About it

Insomniac Games shared the first details about the upcoming PS5 Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. The PlayStation Blog post revealed some interesting details about raytracing, how the game will run at 4K 60FPS and more. For starters, Insomniac Games reworked the game’s global illumination system from scratch so lighting now looks completely different. In addition, the ray-tracing and 4K 60FPS adds more details than ever before. A big change coming to the remastered game too is a new Peter Parker played by Ben Jordan. This means Insomniac Games has scrapped the Peter we have known and replaced him with someone new.

Ben Jordan is now the face of Spider-Man in the upcoming remaster. However, facial capture is still done by Yuri Lowenthal. Insomniac explained that the decision to replace John Bubniak from the original game was a tough one. The developer had to find someone who was a better match to Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture. Ben Jordan is that better match.

The news of the new Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Peter Parker did not go down as well as the developer hoped. On Twitter, fans claim to have been invested in the original Peter Parker and the new actor has “ruined” the game. Other users have planned to boycott the upcoming remaster due to the recast role. Not to mention the mass amount of dislikes on the YouTube trailer. Insomniac Games released a statement following the backlash;

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#DF490D” class=”” size=”21″]“In order to bring the best performances to players with our next-generation Marvel’s Spider-Man games, we have recast the face of Peter Parker. We loved working with John Bubniak on the original game; however, to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture, we have cast Ben Jordan to be the face model for Peter Parker on the PS5 console. As we discussed the franchise’s future and moving to the PS5, it quickly became apparent that even more believable-looking characters made finding a better facial match for Yuri Lowenthal — who we all love as Peter — a necessity,”[/perfectpullquote]

It seems this decision was done for the long run rather than just to replace Peter in the original game. We know Insomniac Games plans on taking the series to new heights with more sequels planned beyond Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. This move was to cast a younger, future proof, Peter Parker.

You can take a look at Ben Jordan in the new PS5 trailer down below. Yes, it has a load of dislikes because well, gamers.
