The PS5 Pro was somewhat of an open secret among developers at Gamescom, according to reports. While we’ve heard plenty of rumours about the upgraded hardware being in production, there hasn’t been an official announcement from Sony yet. However, some media outlets spoke to developers at Gamescom who claimed that they’re delaying their games until the launch of the PS5 Pro.
Italian publication Multiplayer.it apparently spoke to a developer at Gamescom who said that they were slowing down their game’s development in anticipation of the PS5 Pro’s launch. Wccftech later corroborated that report by speaking to another anonymous developer at the German show, who also stated that they had received the PS5 Pro specs and would be willing to wait until the new hardware is launched to release their game because Unreal Engine 5 would run “much better” on the Pro model.
There is the matter of actually getting a PS5 Pro announcement first. Sony has been quiet on that front, though fans suspect that an announcement is right around the corner. Previous reports stated that the Pro model GPU is 45% faster than the base PS5 and devs are being encouraged to explore improving raytracing and graphical fidelity over higher resolutions and frame rates.
While some developers are clearly quite excited about the PS5 Pro’s upgraded hardware, others don’t share the same sentiment. Back in March, some developers reportedly stated that they thought the PS5 Pro was unnecessary as the current PS5 model has yet to actually reach its full potential. The same couldn’t be said about the base PS4 which was already pushing its capabilities with the launch of 2016’s Uncharted 4 – just three years after the console launched.
Rumours are currently circulating about Sony hosting a new State of Play event in September It’s likely that the PS5 Pro will be revealed during this showcase.
