The PS5 Pro might not be on track to launch this year after all, according to insider Tom Henderson. Rumours began circulating earlier this year that Sony was gearing up to release the upgraded PS5 console sometime in late 2024 but that has been brought into question now thanks to a suggestion from Henderson that the Pro model probably won’t make it to market in the next 5-6 months.
Responding to a user question on Twitter/X asking, “I guess September will probably be a decent month since PS5 Pro is most likely going to be announced around then?” Henderson replied, “If it releases this year!” suggesting that the PS5 Pro might not launch at all this year or could’ve possibly been pushed to next year.
To address the elephant in the room, the PS5 Pro will be a difficult sell for players who already own a standard PS5 console and don’t want to fork over more money for another powerful system when it seems like most games coming out in the next few years will still run perfectly fine on standard consoles. Given the expensive asking price of PlayStation hardware these days, it will also be a hefty investment.
If it releases this year!

Additionally, Sony might be trying to steer clear of the reveal/launch of Nintendo’s new console, which Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa says will definitely be revealed before March 2025. Others think that Sony might cancel the Pro model altogether and instead opt for an earlier PS6 launch this generation, though that’s just speculation.
Thanks to leaked internal documents at Sony, we already know some details about the PS5 Pro. However, developers reportedly believe that the upgraded Pro model is unnecessary, stating that the current PS5 model’s capabilities have yet to be pushed to its full potential. Unlike last generation when Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was already pushing the limits of the base PS4 (therefore justifying the PS4 Pro), the PS5 hasn’t reached that threshold yet.
