A new report suggests that the long-rumoured PS5 Pro is scheduled to release sometime in November following an official announcement of the new hardware this month. Last week, a leak by Dealabs unveiled a rendition of the PS5 Pro console’s design. It was teased in a 30th Anniversary image on PlayStation today, all but confirming the console’s leaked design.
According to Insider Gaming’s sources, the PS5 Pro is reportedly scheduled to release in November, though a specific date wasn’t mentioned. Shortly after this report surfaced, The Verge’s Tom Warren suggested that an official announcement would be made on 16 September followed by a State of Play event or showcase.
It seems like Sony aims to reveal the PS5 Pro ahead of any online showcase or event, possibly to give pre-orders and marketing more time. A November release lines up with the holiday season as Sony tends to typically launch new consoles around that time frame to capitalise on holiday sales. The PS4 Pro also released in November during the previous generation.
The pricing of the PS5 Pro has already leaked, though it’s hard to pin down exactly which report is accurate. Either way, fans speculate that it will cost somewhere between $599 – $699, which is a fair estimation considering the reported upgraded power of the console. In South Africa, that will equate to a considerably higher price point than what a standard PS5 costs, so brace for a pretty steep price tag.
In other PS5 Pro news, developers attending Gamescom reportedly stated that they were delaying their games to line up with the launch of the new hardware. Warren mentions in his article that all games from now are required to support the PS5 Pro, which makes sense and gives some credibility to Insider Gaming’s report that it will launch in November. We’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out this month.
