Sony wasn’t joking around when the company announced that PS5 stock would be readily available in stores around the globe earlier this year. The latest sales figures show that everyone and their friends are running out to buy the hardware following the stock replenishment. PS5 year-on-year sales hit 316% in February compared to the same period in 2022. This is thanks to the replenished stock alongside Sony’s current game library.
In the first two months alone, PS5 sales increased by over 180% in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. This just goes to show how badly affected sales were last year due to the stock constraints on the console.

On the other end of the spectrum, both the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox Series X/S are showing slow demand. The Nintendo Switch sales in February were down 15% compared to January and down 29% compared to February last year. This is mainly due to the console’s age and lack of exciting titles at the time. The Switch is on its sixth anniversary and its excellent sales were bound to slow down at some point.
Xbox Series X/S sales have slightly increased by 21% in February compared to January. However, sales are down 5% compared to this time last year.
Sony is also sitting at the top when it comes to additional accessory sales for gaming in the UK. The White DualSense is on the top spot at No.1 followed by the Grey Camo version at No.2 and the Midnight Black version at No.3.
Game sales are still being dominated by Hogwarts Legacy. It remains at the top spot for physical sales in the UK. The game has been No.1 since its launch in February. FIFA 23 sits at No.2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at No.3. Both The Last of Us Part II and The Last of Us Part I are moving around the top 20 thanks to the HBO show’s success.
