PlayStation 5 sales have officially surpassed the PS4 on a time-aligned basis. This means that Sony’s PS5 console sold more units than the PS4 during the same time on the market. The measure was done comparing the PS4’s first 29 months of release and the PS5 hardware.
The news arrives after Sony’s aggressive stock replenishment program kicked off in January. The company announced it would make sure that everyone had access to the PS5 and that you won’t need to join any pre-order lines to get one. As a result, PS5 sales have skyrocketed up to 180% year-on-year in the UK.

The PS5 is also the best-selling console for March 2023 and so far, for the entire year to date. In addition, video game analyst Matt Piscatella says that March set an individual PlayStation platform unit record for Sony. Meaning Sony sold more PlayStation 5 consoles in March than any other hardware within a month.
Resident Evil 4 Remake has also been breaking records. The game is now officially the third-highest-selling game of the year behind Hogwarts Legacy and Modern Warfare 2. The game has also contributed to Sony’s PS5 sales.
According to Piscatella, the PS5 is driving the console market. He also says that new video game launches are selling very well. However, there just aren’t enough of them at the time.
