An insider has claimed that the PS5 will receive its best content in 2025 in terms of exclusives and new games. Sony had a bit of a dry 2024 with exciting new releases. Many PlayStation exclusives this year were from third-party companies signing timed exclusivity deals on PS5 such as Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. However, 2025 might be Sony’s year where it really flexes a good amount of content for its console.
Insider NateTheHate, who has a good reputation based on past leaks and insider information, claimed on a recent podcast that Sony will have a “strong” 2025, stating that most of PlayStation Studios had been quietly working on big titles. This includes Bluepoint, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch Productions, Santa Monica Studio and others. He’s also confident that players will hear more from Sony in fall 2024 regarding the slate of games coming to PS5 next year.
While NateTheHate made these comments nearly two weeks ago, it mostly slipped under the radar until Sony’s recent financial results which acknowledged the lack of “tentpole” games released this year. As of writing, the only large PS5 exclusive planned to release in 2024 is Astro Bot and it’s arguably not as big as what other PlayStation studios might deliver.
There’s also the lingering question about when Sony will release the PS5 Pro. According to insider Tom Henderson, there’s a chance that it might not launch at all this year and will instead arrive in 2025. That makes sense if NateTheHate’s comments about Sony going all-out next year are to be believed. With GTA 6 also on the horizon – and as far as we know, it’s still scheduled for 2025 – players would probably want better hardware to run Rockstar’s ambitious title.
For now, we can only wait and see what Sony has planned for 2025, especially after this year’s mostly barren schedule.
