If you’ve been playing Gran Turismo 7 or not, you might’ve received strange emails from PlayStation over the last week congratulating you for getting the game’s platinum trophy. This seems to be an error on PSN, as some players have yet to even acquire the coveted platinum for the game.
As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, users apparently received emails from PlayStation over the weekend stating that they unlocked the platinum for Gran Turismo 7. This email was sent to users whether or not they actually played the game, triggering most of them to believe that their accounts had been hacked.

Gran Turismo 7‘s platinum trophy hasn’t actually been acquired yet, though there are a few dedicated players who are close to it at 97 percent completion. According to PlayStation Lifestyle writer Zarmena Khan, about seven percent of players also received this incorrect email. Khan didn’t actually play the game either.
This turned out to be a common issue as it was quickly documented by Reddit users too, who all claimed that they had received the same email from PlayStation for getting the game’s platinum trophy, regardless if they played the game or not.
Sony have yet to address this issue, but most have just chalked it up to PSN being broken as usual. It’s easy to understand why many thought their accounts had been hacked as the email came from an official source.
Gran Turismo 7 has seen a bit of controversy since its launch earlier this month, releasing updates that actually made it more difficult for players to acquire and purchase new cars. The game’s expensive microtransactions had come under scrutiny so it’s bizarre that developer Polyphony Digital and PlayStation would ignore criticism and double down on them instead.
Gran Turismo 7 is now available for PS4 and PS5.
