Psychonauts 2 Console Performance Revealed

Psychonauts 2 is set to launch in just over a month and the game has been a long time coming. On 25 August, players will finally continue the story of Razputin “Raz” Aquato who ventures into the big world for the first time after becoming an official agent. According to the story trailer (which you can watch at the bottom), Psychonauts 2 is set up to be a much bigger, bolder adventure than the original. We are even going to meet Raz’s family.

If you are picking up the game on any console and want to know how it runs then we have you covered. Double Fine released the official Psychonauts 2 console performance breakdown showcasing what consoles will run the game at what resolutions.

Keep in mind that Psychonauts 2 is not an official PS5 or Xbox Series X/S game. The title was developed for Xbox One and PS4 so don’t expect any sort of visual feast. With that being said, Psychonauts 2 does take full advantage of Microsoft’s Smart Delivery to enhance the game a bit more on the Xbox Series X/S platforms. This means players will naturally get a higher resolution and faster frame rate.

The Xbox Series X is no doubt the best place to play Psychonauts 2 thanks to its full native 4K 60FPS experience. However, the PS4 Pro and PS5 will also achieve 1440p 60FPS which is not bad at all. Unfortunately, PS4 and PS5 owners won’t benefit from any HDR or VRR support on Psychonauts 2. This is due to the lack of VRR compatibility on the PS5. While the console does support the feature, Sony has yet to update the console to unlock it.

As for the HDR, Psychonauts 2 makes use of the Xbox Series X/S’ Auto HDR tech. This is why the consoles also boast HDR support whereas PlayStation and PC platforms don’t. The long and short of this, the Xbox Series X is the best place to play Psychonauts 2. However, PC and PlayStation owners will enjoy the game just as much.
