Qualcomm Snapdragon G3

Qualcomm Announces New Snapdragon Gs Mobile Gaming Chips

Three new Qualcomm Snapdragon Gs chipsets have been announced by the company. These three chips are designed for mobile gaming and include the G3 Gen 3, G2 Gen 2, and G1 Gen 2.

The G3 is marked as the flagship chip in the lineup, but for some reason, Qualcomm didn’t include the Orryon CPU or Adreno 830 GPU in the chip. Both components are found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which is currently installed in the latest Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup. It seems that Qualcomm might be working on another G chip with more advanced CPU and GPU capabilities.

The new chips are pegged to launch in upcoming handheld devices. These include the OneXSugar that comes with the G3 Gen 3, the Ayaneo G3 Gen 3, and the Retroid Pocket PR Classic, which packs the G1 Gen 2.

It will be interesting to see how these chips perform on the market across these new handhelds. Keep in mind that they aren’t really designed to compete with the AMD Z1 chip or the Switch 2’s reported NVIDIA upgrade. These Snapdragon chips target Android gaming and essentially, emulation. However, the G3 Gen 3 sounds like a beast and might just be able to emulate Switch games without a problem.

  • Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 is the first Snapdragon G Series platform to support Lumen, Unreal Engine 5’s fully dynamic global illumination and reflections system, for Android handheld-dedicated gaming devices. Compared to the previous generation, Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 features 30% faster CPU performance and 28% faster advanced graphics capabilities, as well as greater power optimizations and energy efficiencies. With support for Wi-Fi 7, players can reduce latency and increase bandwidth.
  • Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is aimed for gaming and cloud gaming at 144FPS on dedicated gaming devices, offering a powerful balance of performance and efficiency with 2.3x CPU performance increase and 3.8x faster GPU capabilities over Snapdragon G2 Gen 1. The platform also supports Wi-Fi 7 for faster and more reliable wireless connections.
  • Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 is built to deliver robust performance to a broader audience, bringing up to 1080p at 120 FPS over Wi-Fi. Intended for cloud gaming on dedicated handheld Android gaming devices, this platform drives 80% faster CPU and 25% faster GPU performance for seamless gameplay.

Here’s a look at the OneXSugar, likely the coolest device from the bunch. It seemingly includes rotating controllers, magnetic pads and a dual-screen. Going to make Nintendo DS emulation a dream.
