Rain has successfully rolled out its first 5G internet network in South Africa and announced that is has begun implementing it across Johanessburg and Tswane. It is quite a big achievement as Rain is among one of ten providers in the world to roll out 5G.
The official Rain site explains the service as being able to provide super-fast speeds with unlimited internet for only R1000 per month.

Rain will deliver a state-of-the-art 5G router to a customer’s home. No installation is required, the router is simply plug-and-play and you will be connected immediately. The speed and capacity of the 5G network, together with the latest WiFi 6 technology in the router, will enable rain users to stream high-definition video to multiple devices simultaneously,”[/perfectpullquote]
Rain has built its 5G network to be more affordable to South Africa over current fibre, LTE and ADSL. It promises speeds of up to 700 Mbps by making use of Wi-Fi 6 technology. The service is very limited at this time only being available in selected areas in Johanessburg and Tshwane but Rain states the network will expand to Cape Town, Durban and other metros in 2019, 2020 and beyond.
You can head over to the official site to sign up for the service and fill in your details so when 5G becomes available in your area, Rain will let you know. It is unclear where about in Johanessburg the service is currently available but we have reached out for more information on the current situation.
