With Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey out this week, we thought it would be a good time to go over our top ten Assassin’s Creed games to date! This list includes the best of the best in the series. No, the list does not include Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey yet and even though we have reviewed it and loved it so much, we want to see what everyone else thinks of it. Here are the best Assassin’s Creed games ever released.

10 – Assassin’s Creed Unity
Unity was the first game that Ubisoft had released on the new generation of hardware and the good visuals came at the price of countless bugs and glitches. After Ubisoft had taken a month or so to address all these issues, Unity was actually not that bad. The game polished up its engine, increasing performance and made an all-around better Assassin’s Creed experience compared to when it launched. Unity starred Arno Victor Dorian during the French Revolution and took players across Paris in the darkest Assassin’s Creed game to date.
9 – Assassin’s Creed: Liberation
Now this game, in my opinion, was both underdeveloped as well as underappreciated. With it being released alongside Assassin’s Creed 3, the game never really caught any traction, however, that doesn’t mean it was a terrible game. It did lack in some story aspects but overall it was a great improvement to the previous handheld Creed games. Taking the role of Aveline de Grandpré, a slave turned French Assassin, Liberation was the best portable game in the series and brought New Orleans to life like never before.
8 – Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
Revolutions for me was a much-needed end to an overused setting and character. Sure we all loved Ezio but by this time he was an old man and we all knew his end was coming. The game didn’t really offer too many improvements from the previous titles. The game acted as the finale to the Ezio saga and it was a long time coming. It also acted as the darkest time for the Assassin’s Creed series with Ubisoft releasing three games set during the same era, three years in a row. It was not a bad game but it was ruined by its reused mechanics and characters.
7 – Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Seeing as Assassin’s Creed 2 was such a huge success it was no surprise that Ubisoft carried on with the same setting and protagonist, Ezio. Brotherhood saw the introduction of the online multiplayer which I might add was awesome, but also the ability to build up parts of towns you controlled as well as send followers out on missions. It basically took everything great with Assassin’s Creed 2 and made it better.
6 – Assassin’s Creed 3
Now, this was the first attempt that Ubisoft made to move away from the previous protagonist, Ezio, as well as his setting. Players took the role of Connor Kenway, an Assassin out for revenge after the Templar’s attacked his village. This game was not bad as it delivered a good storyline, character development as well as good gameplay and was a great take on the series as it got to touch on the other side of the Templar Order.
5 – Assassin’s Creed: Rogue
Now Rogue was for those who didn’t own a PS4 or Xbox One and for those who did play it, you’ll probably have nothing too bad to say about it. It was a refreshing game where the player takes the role of Shay Cormac, a Templar looking to intercept his enemies. Rogue introduced new weapons, tactics, as well as a whole new story narrative as we were now able to see the story from the other side, the Templar side and try to bring the Brotherhood down.
4 – Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
After the hot mess that Unity was, Ubisoft was pretty determined to not make the same mistake twice and it showed in Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. The game was set in London during the Industrial Revolution and saw players take the role of Jacob and Evie Frye. Two siblings looking to break the control the Templar’s had over London. The inclusion of the Royal Palace and families was great but what really made this game good was the focus on good story development and character building. The game also had two playable characters throughout the story which was a first for the series. London was also brought to life thanks to Ubisoft’s polished game engine which they perfected after Unity’s buggy launch.
3 – Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
This absolutely massive game followed the story of Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Connor from AC 3. It charted his journeys of the Caribbean in search of treasure and that is how he stumbles across the battles of the Templar’s and the Brotherhood. It was a tale of a pirate turned Assassin and its strong emphasis on exploration and naval combat made Black Flag the biggest Assassin’s Creed to date. It was also gorgeous as you explored the Caribbean with your pirate ship and adventured through islands to discover secrets.
2 – Assassin’s Creed: Origins
The latest entry in the AC series, barring Odyssey. Origins took a whole new approach to the series and took us halfway across the world to Egypt. Now while the story was fantastic, the historical accuracy, details and even tours the game offered were surreal. Along with the biggest open world in an AC game to date, we also got to explore the ancient ruins of past Pharos and battling ancient Egyptian gods, I think Ubisoft got everything right in this entry and that not even mentioning the new combat systems, gear and loot systems and well as weaponry.
1 – Assassin’s Creed II
Now, this is widely regarded as the best Assassins Creed game to date by many and there are actually few people that would disagree. Assassin’s Creed II was a huge jump in the series compared to the first game and laid the foundations for the series’ popularity to date. Ezio was also a new, much more layered character with a deep backstory and drive to bring down the Templar Order. The game was also set in Italy during the Renaissance which laid the foundations for a gripping story involving religion and corruption. Everything about the game just worked and while it may seem simple compared to say Odyssey, it was responsible for the series fame and you have to respect it for that.
