A Pokemon Trading Card Game collector has recently sold a very rare Pokemon card at a New York auction for a whopping $195,000, which translates into roughly R2.9 million at the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate. While both the buyer and the seller’s names have not been publically revealed, we know that the card in question is Pikachu Illustrator.

Pikachu Illustrator was never publically available but instead, it was awarded to a few people who participated in one of three art contents in 1998 by a Japanese magazine called CoroCoro. There are only 20-39 of these rare Pokemon cards in the world and as reported by TechDeal.info, one of them has been sold by a collector.
Earlier this year, a case of the first edition Pokemon card were sold for $70,000 and back in 2016, another Pikachu Illustrator card was sold for $55. This one, however, is a massive jump in price and it just goes to show you that this very limited edition card can increase massively in value over time.
Some people even reportedly started making very detailed fakes to try and sell, so for that reason, before the auction, the Pikachu Illustrator card had to go through an inspection process by specialists to verify that it is the real deal.
The card was sold for that whopping $195,000 amount at an event in New York from Weiss Auctions. Keep in mind that there are some very rich people out there and they can do whatever they please with their money…
