Over the weekend, Microsoft hosted its Xbox + Bethesda E3 2021 showcase where the company revealed a range of games. In addition, they shared updates to existing titles like Sea of Thieves, Halo and more. One missing game was Rare’s Everwild which has been missing in action since its debut back in 2019. Xbox fans who are wondering where the game has gone now have the answer: Everwild has been completely rebooted from the ground up.
According to a report by VGC, Rare has undertaken a complete overhaul of the game’s design and direction. This is as a result of the departure of its previous creative director Simon Woodroffe last year.

Rare has since changed up the lineup at the studio. Gregg Mayles, who has worked at Rare for more than three decades has since taken up the role of the new creative director on the project. He will oversee the reboot alongside Louise O’Connor as the executive producer.
It is unclear which direction Everwild is going in now that the game has been rebooted. The original game saw a reveal in 2019 and focused on an open-world like RPG with massive creatures and a deep rich world to explore. The reboot might follow the same idea but perhaps the general gameplay and story may differ.
Don’t get your hopes up for a release soon. Rare says that the Everwild team is now optimistically targeting a 2024 release window for the rebooted game.
“The team behind Everwild continue to shape a truly magical experience and remain focused and excited about creating a new game centred around a truly unique, new world.”
Gregg Mayles joined us, late last year as Creative Director, and the team has never been stronger. Since showing the world our Eternals trailer, we have been making progress on all aspects of Everwild.
The team continues to work hard to realise our vision and to bring the magic of nature in Everwild to life for players around the world.
