Last night during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, Insomniac Games showcased 7-minutes of uninterrupted PS5 Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart gameplay. So far, it is the longest gameplay demo we have seen from a PS5 game to date. In addition, the demo touched on some key features of the PlayStation 5 including ray tracing, the next-to-no loading screens capabilities and of course, dense combat encounters with interactive environments. If anything, Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart is like playing a Pixar movie.

In a post-demo interview, Insomniac Games’ Marcus Smith said that Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart on PS5 is a standalone adventure. However, Marcus confirmed the game is full of nods to other games in the series. We saw this throughout the demo as rifts opened and creatures from past Ratchet and Clank games came flying through them. In addition, Marcus confirmed that Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart on PS5 is a sequel to “Into the Nexus“, a PS3 game that released back in 2013.
So when can you play the new game? Well, hopefully soon. During the interview, host Geoff Keighley asked about a possible launch window for the game in which Marcus replied it will launch within the PS5’s “Launch Window”. Keep in mind that this could mean anything right now. It could mean a month or two after the console releases or a week or two. If Sony were to launch the game alongside the console, it would be fantastic. This means owners would have two PlayStation 5 exclusive games to sink their teeth into later this year. The other being Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
