Red Bull Hit The Streets – What SA Gamers Need to Know

A country-wide Street Fighter V esports tournament qualifiers it taking place that members of the fighting game community shouldn’t miss out on. It is called Red Bull Hit The Streets and it provides aspiring local Street Fighter V contestants a chance to compete in the South African finals to be held in November. This weekend, you can compete in one of those qualifiers at the Nexus Hub in Randburg, Gauteng. Here’s what you need to know about all the qualifiers for Red Bull Hit The Streets.

First up, you need to know what’s at stake. The winner of this national final in November (in Cape Town) will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at the Red Bull Kumite last-chance qualifier, as well as the opportunity to attend the Red Bull Kumite World Finals later this year. Those who win their respective qualifiers will have all their travel and accommodation costs covered, regardless of the city they qualified in.

Best of all, entry to any of these Red Bull Hit The Streets qualifiers are free and walk-in only, so this weekend you can just show up at the Nexus Hub on 31 August two hours before the qualifier kicks off and register to take part. The Red Bull Hit The Streets page explains:

The qualification tour will run until the end of October and comprises 7 official qualifier events. These events will be run by 3rd-party venues and expos, including ATK Arena, Nexus Hub, rAge, and Comic-Con Africa.

 

Run in a standard ‘double-elimination format’, these qualifiers will each yield a single winner who will earn a direct seeding into the Grand Finale event in Cape Town on November 7th. Don’t fret if you’re not Cape Town-based – our 7 finalists will have all their travel and accommodation costs covered, regardless of the city you qualified in. [/perfectpullquote]

  • 31 August (12:00 – 18:00): Nexus Qualifier #1 – Nexus Hub, Randburg, Gauteng
  • 21 – 24 September: Comic-Con Africa – Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand
  • 27 – 29 September: rAge Expo – Ticket Pro Dome, Randburg
  • 5 October (12:00 – 18:00): ATK Qualifier #2 – ATK Arena, Claremont, Cape Town
  • 26 October (12:00 – 18:00): Nexus Qualifier #2 – Nexus Hub, Randburg, Gauteng
  • 7 November (10:00 – 13:00): Last Chance Qualifier – Red Bull Music Studio, Cnr. Shortmarket & Bree Street, Cape Town

Finals date and location:

  • 7 November (16:00 – 20:00): Red Bull Music Studio, Cnr. Shortmarket & Bree Street, Cape Town
