In an attempt to breathe some life into the online mode for Red Dead Redemption II, Rockstar Games has announced a standalone version of Red Dead Online. In a press release, Rockstar Games claims that the Red Dead Online standalone version will include everything the mode has to offer including the five unique specialist roles, the story-based co-op missions and the competitive Showdown Modes. However, users will have a limited time to take advantage of the standalone version of Red Dead Online. Rockstar says the game will only be available from 1 December 2020 to 15 February 2021.

Users will also have to free up some storage space for the game. According to the blog post, even though the package does not include access to the Red Dead Redemption 2 story mode, it does include the game files. This means the entire download is 123GB in total. However, if users want to access the story mode, they can purchase it separately and launch it straight away without any extra downloading (sliver lining I guess).

In addition to the Red Dead Online standalone version, Rockstar shared new details on the Bounty Hunters Role Expansion.

There will also be new Legendary Bounties and a 100 Rank Outlaw Pass.

And those new to the game can prepare for next week’s big update by commencing the hunt to take down the frontier’s current crop of notorious reprobates. Meet up with the Legendary Bounty Hunter in the town of Rhodes to procure a Bounty Hunter License and get started.

As an added bonus, this week all Bounty Hunter missions in Red Dead Online are awarding double XP.
