Red Dead Redemption 2 releases in just over a month and we couldn’t be more excited. One of the most exciting features of the game is to explore its wide open world on horseback. Last night, Rockstar released a series of images that showcase some of the different locations.

Rockstar Red Dead 2

The Frontiers, Cities, and Towns of Red Dead Redemption 2

The first thing you’ll notice when looking through the screenshot gallery is the variety. Locations range from swamps to towns bustling with activities, to a dangerous pass through snowy mountains. Every location has its unique charm and invites you to explore.

Rockstar showcased a total of seven locations, with a short description of each, and two images of activities at the heart of that area.

Valentine, The Heartlands, NH

Red Dead 2 location

Valentine is a “rough-and-tumble” town located in the Heartlands. It’s most important asset is livestock, and these are auctioned at the market. Because of its thriving livestock business, Valentine attracts traders and business people, who in turn attracts outlaws looking to score big after an auction. The town is also known for attracting prostitutes, and every cowboy looking for a great time. Make some money, rob a wealthy trader, and go for a roll in the hay.

Annesburg, Roanoke Ridge, NH

RDR2 areas

Annesburg is a mining town that supplies the Lannahechee River with coal. It’s a tough business and a hard life for the families who have been mining coal for almost a century. Hard labour and a dangerous occupation are the attributes of life in this town. I think Annesburg is a ticking bomb as labourers are also paid way under what is expected of such a dangerous occupation.

Saint Denis, Bayou Nwa, LE

Red Dead 2 different locations

Saint Denis is the gateway into North America. It is an important city in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 as it provides trade routes throughout the country.

The city is as diverse as it is big and includes people from many different cultures. In Saint Denis, you’ll find the rich and the poor, the scoundrel and the entrepreneur.

Mount Hagen, Grizzlies, AM

Red Dead 2 snow landscape

Mount Hagen rises above Lake Isabella to the west and Beartooth Beck to the east. It is also the main pass through the western mountain range and joins up with the Dakota River further south. Its isolated location makes it a dangerous and treacherous place.

Rhodes, Scarlett Meadows, LE

Red Dead Redemption 2 towns

Rockstar describes Rhodes as “Prim and proper on the surface,” but with “tensions and corruption running deep.” It is located in the Southern parts of the Red Dead Redemption 2 map and is the focal point between two warring plantation families. The Braithwaites and the Grays are at war, and the town’s population are in the middle.

Strawberry, Big Valley, WE

Red Dead Redemption 2 population

Strawberry is a small logging town with a big heart. The new mayor wants to turn the little town into a cultural beacon for wealthy tourists. The mayor is “an eccentric” from the East Coast, and set on his vision for Strawberry, much to the “bemusement of the locals.”

Lagras, Bayou NWA, LE

Red Dead 2 swamp area

The swamps of Bayou Nwa is home to a small settlement – and it seems the giant alligator. The people of Lagras are a simple folk who make a meagre living from fishing and serving as guides for those who want to explore the region.

Rockstar previously revealed more Red Dead Redemption 2 plot details and characters, as well as the gang camp system, combat and more.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 adventure begins on October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. See here for your South African price list and special editions.
