Remedy has commented on the recent report that Alan Wake 2 runs at 864p on the new $700 PS5 Pro console. Yesterday, we covered the news of this Unreal Engine 5.1 game as Digital Foundry released a report regarding its resolution alongside other PS5 Pro Enhanced games.
If you missed it, Alan Wake 2 has been confirmed to run at 864p 60FPS on the PS5 Pro. This is the same resolution as the base PS5 console but the upgrade seemingly includes a number of graphics updates across the image quality and raytracing.
Remedy’s Head of Communication Thomas Puha has since stated that while he can’t confirm any specific details regarding the game running on PS5 Pro, he does believe that image quality matters more than the resolution. He said:
“I had to check Era during weekend Lol. Remedy’s games and resolution discussion pops up every once in a while. Image quality matters more than resolution, not that I’m confirming anything. We’ll drop some details on the PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2 in the coming weeks with some assets too. I think the version will be a pleasant surprise, but hard to tell these days.”
There is likely an embargo around the PS5 Pro and its upgraded games at the moment. Developers have likely signed an NDA to keep specific technical details under wraps until much later down the line. Sony likely wants to rake in some pre-orders before developers reveal exactly how their game runs on the new console.
By the sound of things, Alan Wake 2 doesn’t see any resolution increase at all on PS5 Pro. However, the game’s visuals sound upgraded. Remedy has probably worked on improving the texture quality, increasing raytracing and other technical details.
We do need to keep in mind that even the most powerful and overpriced GPU, the RTX 4090 can’t run Alan Wake 2 at 4K 60FPS with path-traced raytracing enabled. The game’s technical features are incredibly demanding.
With that being said, if you’re looking to pick up the PS5 Pro for better resolution and frame rate, so far it looks like some games might only come with visual enhancements. Sony has confirmed this is the case by saying players should expect 30FPS PS5 Pro Enhanced games.
