Capcom has released a truly bizarre and kind of charming anime parody video for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake. When it comes to the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom finds pretty ingenious ways to market the games in Japan. Resident Evil Village‘s equally strange promotional video featured a twisted puppet show. You have to admire these efforts and this latest Resident Evil 4 skit is no different.
The promotional video for the Resident Evil 4 remake is themed around an old-school anime reminiscent of Heidi. Leon approaches a group of deranged villagers asking about Ashley’s whereabouts, who quickly turn on him and ax in him in the head (in an explosive burst of rainbows instead of blood). It’s weird, creative and brilliant. The short is only part 1 of a potential ongoing series, teasing that we may see more of these videos. Yes, please.

The Resident Evil 4 remake launches later this week and early reviews have showered it with praise, calling it a faithful reimagining of the 2004 classic and just as potent as the original, though it now features more horror elements than action. The remake currently has an average score of 92 with a 97% recommended approval on the gaming aggregate website, OpenCritic.
The official description of the Resident Evil 4 remake provided by Capcom reads:
“Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the 2005 original Resident Evil 4. Reimagined for 2023 to bring state-of-the-art survival horror. Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics to make this the latest survival horror game where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect.”
