Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mode Will Be Free DLC For PS VR2

The Resident Evil 4 remake is just over a month away from launch and developer Capcom is already detailing some post-launch plans. According to the company, a VR mode has already started development and will eventually be released as free DLC for PS VR2 owners.

The news was recently posted to the Japanese Biohazard social media channels which confirmed that a VR mode for the Resident Evil 4 remake is in development but likely won’t be ready in time for the game’s release this March. It will only later be added as free DLC for PS5 and PS VR2 players.

To tie in with the launch of PS VR2 today, Resident Evil Village will receive its own VR update. The mode is a free DLC add-on for players who purchased the standard edition of Resident Evil Village or Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. A VR demo will also be available to download for players who don’t own a copy of Village.

It’s not clear if Capcom plans to make the entire Resident Evil 4 remake playable in VR or if it will just include sections of the game. That said, you can already play the entirety of the original Resident Evil 4 in VR if you own an Oculus Quest headset.

Resident Evil 4 is Capcom’s next big remake in the Resident Evil series since it has already remade both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 for modern consoles and PC. The Resident Evil 4 remake aims to shift the tone of the original game in a more horror-focused direction and features several gameplay changes including new methods of protecting Ashley, new weapons, the removal of quick-time events and new enemies. Resident Evil 4 launches on 24 March 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
