Capcom is reportedly gearing up to announce Resident Evil 9 very soon. Rumours surrounding the ninth mainline entry in the long-running survival horror franchise have been swirling for months, if not years at this point. We know that Resident Evil remains a top priority franchise for Capcom and there was no doubt that the ninth game was on its way. Now we have a lead that claims an announcement is imminent.
The leak comes from leaker Lunatic Ignus, who has a rocky track record at best concerning accurate and reliable leaks. On that note, we recommend taking everything here with a pinch of salt as many have already pointed out that the leaker’s track record isn’t great. However, they’ve come forward on Discord recently claiming that Resident Evil 9 will be the most ambitious game in the series and it’s expected to be announced in coming weeks or months.
Lunatic Ignus also claims that Resident Evil 9 is targeting a release sometime in 2025, meaning Capcom will launch both Monster Hunter Wilds and the new Resident Evil game next year.
On closer inspection, the leaker covers their tracks by stating that the game will be revealed “in the coming weeks/months”, so it’s an incredibly vague leak, if not mere speculation. There are a few upcoming events where this announcement could potentially take place, though. PlayStation is rumoured to host a new State of Play event tomorrow, so an announcement of the event is expected later today.
There’s also The Game Awards set to take place in December, so there are quite a few options for Capcom on where it plans to reveal Resident Evil 9. There’s also Capcom’s own confirmation from back in July this year that it was already working on Resident Evil 9 with Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi at the helm.
