Capcom made a splash at Summer Game Fest 2025 tonight with the announcement of Resident Evil 9, now officially titled Resident Evil Requiem. The game is seemingly a follow-up to 2021’s Resident Evil Village and follows Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Fans are also speculating that Leon S. Kennedy could be featured in the game. Capcom announced a February 2026 release date for the anticipated title.
Resident Evil Requiem will likely take players back to the ruins of Raccoon City and to a location known as Remwood Hotel, with Grace Ashcroft tasked with investigating a new virus strain in the area. Beyond that, very little is actually known about the story or how it might connect to Outbreak. Following the game’s reveal trailer, Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley confirmed that the game will feature “cinematic high-stakes action” in addition to continuing its survival horror gameplay. We’ll have to wait for official gameplay to see how that plays out.
There have been several rumours and speculation about Resident Evil 9 leading up to the reveal trailer tonight, though it seems like we still have a few lingering questions about the story and characters. We won’t have to wait too long to find out more as the game is set to release early next year.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to release on 27 February 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Watch the announcement trailer below:
