Resident Evil 9 Reportedly Coming in January 2025

The wait for Resident Evil 9, the next mainline entry in Capcom’s long-running survival horror franchise, might be coming to an end soon. A new rumour claims that the ninth major title will release in January 2025 after being revealed “pretty soon”, pointing to the rumoured PlayStation Showcase apparently taking place in May. The leak also mentions that the game has been in development for 7 years at this point.

The leak originates from regular Capcom leaker Dusk Golem, who has a 50/50 track record of industry leaks. In this case, we recommend taking all information with a big grain of salt. According to the leaker, Resident Evil 9 will be revealed soon and possibly release by January 2025. In all honesty, that sounds like a pretty safe bet given the release schedule of most Resident Evil games in the past few years.

As for details about Resident Evil 9, there’s nothing we can say for certain right now. Capcom stated back in September 2022 that the Resident Evil Village DLC Shadows of Rose would conclude the Winters family saga, meaning it’s likely that the next entry won’t see the return of Ethan Winters or his daughter Rose – at least not as playable main characters anyway.

That leaves the community to speculate on what could be next for the current ongoing saga. If we go by Shadows of Rose‘s time jump, the next game could be set at least 16 years later, meaning there’s a chance we’ll see more seasoned recurring characters like Leon, Chris or Jill. Alternatively, the events of Resident Evil 9 could also take place within those 16 years from the events of Resident Evil Village.

Since Dusk Golem leaked this new information, they have received quite a scathing community note on Twitter/X informing readers that they’re not trustworthy. We say draw your own conclusions but still be mindful of the nature of rumours and reports, as they’re not always 100% accurate.
