Capcom has revealed the Shadows of Rose DLC for its survival horror game Resident Evil Village, set to release next month. The expanded story content will put players in the shoes of Ethan Winters’ daughter, Rosemary. However, it looks like this will be the final bout for their story as Capcom recently stated that Shadows of Rose will “conclude the Winters family saga.”
Speaking to IGN Japan at Tokyo Game Show recently, director Kento Kinoshita confirmed that Capcom created the Shadows of Rose DLC for Resident Evil Village to conclude the story of the Winters family. If Rose isn’t the main character of the next game, it’s unclear where Capcom will take the franchise next – especially considering that a massive leak of Resident Evil 9 took place back in July though seemingly omitted any references to the protagonist. Of course, take that leak with a grain of salt.

When pressed about what fans can expect for the future of the Resident Evil series, producer Masachika Kawata simply laughed after stating that it could “absolutely not” reveal any new information.
At the moment, Capcom is currently working on a long-awaited remake for Resident Evil 4 which will place a heavier emphasis on its horror elements and atmospheric tension. The developer will introduce some changes to the game, though we’ll probably learn more about them in a planned Resident Evil showcase set to happen next month.
The future of the Resident Evil series is currently unknown, especially if the four-hour long Shadows of Rose DLC will wrap up the Winters family story. Major spoilers for Resident Evil Village inbound: protagonist Ethan Winters sacrificed himself at the end of the game to save his wife, daughter and Chris Redfield, bringing his story to a close.
The upcoming Resident Evil Village Gold Edition will include a third-person perspective, new Mercenaries content, the Shadows of Rose expansion and plenty of additions when it launches on 28 October 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
