Resident Evil Village Gameplay Details Leak After Closed Test Event

"A recent Resident Evil Village playtest revealed more gameplay and story elements."

According to a recently closed test for the upcoming Resident Evil Village or 8, if you are counting, the game sounds drastically different from anything we have seen or experienced in the series so far. Reports claim Capcom is hosting a gameplay showcase for the title next month sometime. However, to ease you over until that happens, a load of new information has arrived out of the closed test. According to BioHazard Declassified, Resident Evil Ambassadors took part in a playtest and details from the test have leaked online.

Keep in mind that none of this is confirmed yet. Take it with a pinch of salt for now. However, from what we have heard about the game so far, it sounds about correct. More and more information in regards to the enemies and overall gameplay keeps pointing to a darker and more fantasy-like horror and we can’t wait to play it.

From BioHazard Declassified

ENEMIES

The enemies within these areas are very pale, almost rotten skin, with tattoos on their foreheads and hands. Some with armour, but not like knight armour, that can also be shot off.

They do speak in a distorted foreign language. Some carried daggers, swords, axes, and even spears. There are some without armed weapons. They jump and grab and bite similar to Resident Evil 3, and you can button-mash to take less damage. Some enemies will throw you to the ground instead of biting. The one with the sword has a special attack that can instantly behead Ethan.

PLAYTEST SEGMENT ENVIRONMENT

Most rooms were bright but few bedrooms were dark. The segment was somewhere within the castle on a higher level and you needed to find a key to open a big door downstairs.

BOSS FIGHT

Once opening the door the lady in black named Olga appeared and released a swarm of insects. The player won’t have to fight the insects unless she spots Ethan. She would laugh constantly whenever she spots him.

In this boss fight, players grabbed a torch to use fire to scare her insects off to get Olga exposed to shoot her. After a bit of shooting, she’ll transform into this insect/spider-like creature with long spider legs and releasing more insects coming out from her insect-like bottom.

Her human remains are still there, but naked and covered with black goo. After the defeat, she melted and some parts of skeletons covered in the goo remained and she dropped an item. She also released all of her insects, to which the player will find and kill them to stop them from attacking you in certain rooms.

WEAPONS

The playtest reportedly features the handgun seen in the reveal trailer. However, according to the leak, there’s also a shotgun and an unbreakable knife. Players can also carry melee weapons like an axe which breaks after a few hits.

INVENTORY

Resident Evil Village features the same inventory system as RE4 according to the leak. The game is paused when viewing your items like in the RE3 and RE2 remakes. Crates and vases are broken to find items.

OLD WOMAN CHARACTER

The old woman in robes that can be seen from the Resident Evil 8: Village reveal trailer was also mentioned by the leaker as being almost a merchant-like character in the game. This character sells items to characters and also has multiple dialogue options to share.

OTHER

According to the leak, the test took place on PS4 Pro. Previously, we heard that the game would not release on current-gen. Perhaps this has changed? They said a VR version of the game will happen too but the announcement is still a while away.

Resident Evil Village or 8 is planned to release in early 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.
