Earlier this month, we reported on a rumour that another remake of the first Resident Evil was in the works along with some new details about the unannounced Resident Evil 9. The leak came from DanielRPK, who generally has a good track record of industry leaks. However, another prominent leaker has now come out to debunk these rumours, stating that a Resident Evil 1 remake is not actually in development, rather Capcom is working on remakes of both Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica.
This information originates from Dusk Golem, a leaker who has had a mixed track record of leaks regarding Capcom games in the past. Dusk Golem claims that the rumours about Capcom working on remakes for Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 5 are false as, according to his sources, there aren’t any such projects currently in the works. He added that Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica remakes are on the way.
Under any normal circumstance, this would be brushed off lightly with a message from us telling you to take all of it with a pinch of salt. However, what makes Dusk Golem’s latest information dump intriguing is the fact that his latest claims were backed up by Video Games Chronicle journalist Andy Robinson, who has a very solid track record of insider information.
(4/4) a remake of Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica in development right now.
I’ve talked to many others behind the scenes about this at this point, it’s something I heard over a year ago, think it was going to get out whether I was the one to say it or not, & that’s about it.

There’s a very good chance that Dusk Golem’s new info is accurate, which also means that Resident Evil 9 is much further out from release than we think. Earlier in the Twitter/X post, the leaker also mentioned that Capcom had shifted the announcement of the next mainline title out of this summer and it’s now targeting a late 2025/2026 release.
