Return to Silent Hill Movie Gets First Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Return to Silent Hill movie has been released, showing actors Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson taking on the familiar roles of James Sunderland and Maria from the Silent Hill 2 video game, respectively. The trailer doesn’t show much but it is a good indicator that it will stick very closely to the source material with the iconic town lovingly being recreated with authentic sets and locations.

Return to Silent Hill is the third movie adaptation of the popular psychological horror franchise by Konami, preceeded by 2006’s Silent Hill which received positive feedback from fans and 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelations which mostly adapted the story of Silent Hill 3 but proved to be a critical and commercial failure. Christophe Gans, the director of the first Silent Hill movie, is at the helm again for Return to Silent Hill.

The teaser trailer shows actors Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death) embodying the role of James Sunderland, the protagonist who visits Silent Hill after receiving a strange message from his deceased wife calling him to the frightening town. James meets Maria, played by Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw, X-Men: Dark Phoenix), a woman who agrees to help James get to the bottom of this mystery while confronting some of his personal demons that the town has manifested as nightmarish creatures.

This is the first time that a live-action movie is directly adapting the events of the Silent Hill 2 video game, which is often regarded as the best entry in the franchise and one of the best horror games ever made.

Bloober Team is currently hard at work with Konami on a remake of Silent Hill 2, which recently debuted extended gameplay along with pre-order incentives and special editions.
