Riot Announces League of Legends Wild Rift for Mobile and Consoles

Riot Games is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month and in a series of new announcements the developer revealed League of Legends Wild Rift a new game coming to consoles and mobile devices.

The game seems to be inspired by League of Legends with a new-identical MOBA experience but tweaked and changed to accommodate controllers and mobile gaming devices including a twin-stick layout. The game will feature a new map with matches targeting a 15-20 minute runtime.

Riot confirmed League of Legends Wild Rift is not a port of the current LoL game on PC rather a new game built from scratch to “ensure it is a legitimate LoL experience that’s worth players’ time”

Riot revealed the game is set to launch in early 2020 on mobile devices with pre-registration already live on Google Play. As for the console version, while it has been confirmed, Riot was not clear what platforms it will launch on and when but chances are it will arrive in 2020 soon after the mobile version.

The mobile MOBA market is quite saturated with dozens of games like Arena of Valor already quite popular so Riot may find it hard to fit into the market. We will have to see how it rolls out in 2020.
