Rockstar Confirms GTA 6 Development and GTA V PS5 Release Date

Over the weekend, Rockstar Games publically spoke out about GTA 6 for the first time. While we always knew it was happening, the developer finally confirmed that the studio is actively working on a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.

In a statement, Rockstar claims that GTA 6 development is already “well underway” which by the sound of things means it might already be a few years into production.

Rockstar Games acknowledged the lifespan of GTA V saying that fans have been asking about a sequel to the series for a few years now (more like two console generations already). The statement reads:

With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

If you’re holding out for GTA Online and GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S there is good news too. Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will release on 15 March for the new console generation. The developer says that GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will boast a range of visual improvements including HDR options, ray-tracing, 3D Audio support on PS5 and much more.

Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S features new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as offering the technical advancements of the latest console generation with faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more.

Players will be able to transfer their GTA Online character across from PS3 to PS4 and then PS5. That way they can continue their journey in the game without losing progress. The same goes for any story progress you might have made in the main game. Your progress will carry over too. However, keep in mind that this is a one-time transfer and cannot be moved back to the previous console.

PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners will also get to play GTA Online for free in March. A special free-to-play version of the game will launch on 15 March and is available for the first three months. After which you will need to purchase the game.
